goddamn Trent Reznor. there was a lot of speculation when he dumped his label and went self-published that he'd be fucked. well, he just turned loose another album, The Slip, on the internet, the second full length this year alone. totally free. I swear, it's this kind of punk rock, DIY spirit that the music world needs more of. I'm amped to know that someone has the stones to embrace new models and do wildly different stuff. and, let's be honest: how great is a 45 minute free album from one of your favourite musicians? the disc is a monster, with a totally epic couple of instrumental songs, as well as some of NIN's catchiest songs ever. and some HEAVY-AS-FUCK stuff too. I feel like it's a great time to be a fan.

in other news, I've been watching Nadia: The Secret Of Blue Water, which was the show that caused Hideaki Anno to lapse into the 4 year depression that spawned Evangelion. the show is terrific, minus a couple episodes, (it suffers from Twin peaks syndrome, in that it gets kind of lame for a few, and then returns to form for the conclusion) and really helps establish a lot of Anno's signatures. to wit: the way he punishes his child characters has yet to change, and it always makes for such cathartic viewing.

than watching Aaron North crucify his fucking amplifier? if there is, it'd probably be coming to see me and my new band Guns That Shoot Knives at Albright college on Tuesday the 22nd at 730. tons of great bands, it's an Earth Day Benefit, and you witness the public debut of a cool band with a unique sound. it costs like 3 dollars, most of which goes right back to the planet. Like Aeris.
note: we're not really as cool as Aaron North. Swoon.

Guns That Shoot Knives, have a whole bunch of demos up at www.myspace.com/gunsthatshootknives. only one song, Love Free Zone, has vocals recorded, but you can get an idea of what we're going for. we're playing our first real show on April 22 at Albright College. if you like Joy Division, Death From Above 1979, early Bauhaus, or other minimalist rock stuff, or just post-punk or drone or shoegaze or other stuff like that, give us a listen. come see me play, too! the show is open to the public, and I'm really excited about this project. i'm singing, my friend mike is playing bass, and my friend Cait is playing drum machines and keyboards.
